New year, new menu

Published On: 5th January 2017

It’s that time of the year again, the time when customers take steps towards eating better after the mouth-watering delicacies of the Christmas period. Many predictions have been made about which foods will be trendy and popular in 2017, but one thing’s for sure, a shake-up of your food-to-go options is likely to go down well with your customers.

Common New Year’s resolutions in the UK include losing weight, being more active, drinking less alcohol and eating more fruit and vegetables. As a catering operator, you can help to support your customer’s goals for the new year by offering a variety of healthy and nutritious dishes that will also keep them warm during the winter freeze. January health campaigns such as Dry January – a month of no alcohol, and Veganuary – a month of eating a vegan diet, encourage people to take the first steps to changing their dietary habits, often with the hopes of cutting down on certain food and drink items in the future.

With veganism growing by 360 percent in the last decade and 1 in 5 Brits avoid certain ingredients due to allergies or intolerance, catering operators need to be aware that dietary needs are at an all-time high.

The changing consumer food choices mean it’s more important than ever to review your menu and analyse which ingredients go into your dishes and whether they are ticking key consumer requests. As the start of the year, and quieter than the Christmas period, January is the ideal time to evaluate your menu and adapt your selection with food options that will fit around your customers’ needs and help to fuel their lifestyles.
