Nordman Fir Real Christmas Trees
Traditions of the Christmas tree

Friday October 2, 2015

There are many stories about the traditions of the Christmas tree; some even dating back to the 15th century, but it seems that displaying Christmas trees first started to become widespread practice in 16th century Germany.  The first Christmas trees were decorated with paper flowers in varying colours and edibles such as nuts, fruit and gingerbread.

In 1841 Britain displayed their first Christmas tree at Winsor Castle, when it was brought over from Germany by Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert.

In the present day, real Christmas trees are a popular choice in the UK, with around 6 million being sold each year. It is also stated that 100-150 million families in Europe will put up a real Christmas tree this festive season.

One of the most famous Christmas trees in the present day is the tree displayed in Trafalgar Square. Each year this tree is given to the UK from Norway as a ‘thank you’ gift for helping during World War II.

If a real tree is not a suitable choice for your establishment, we also provide a choice of three artificial trees. The Superior tree is a bushy deep green tree, which is available in either 6ft or 8ft. The Mendip Spruce Pine is a luxury 7ft green tree and comes pre-lit to save you the time of decorating. The White Spruce gives a seasonal ‘winter wonderland’ feel, which compliments any Christmas display.
