Sustainable Future 2017 e-brochure highlights collaboration and innovation

Bunzl Catering Supplies is delighted to launch its Sustainable Future 2017 e-brochure – a new 52-page document that presents the business’s evolving sustainability framework under its three key pillars: people, customers and suppliers.

Joanna Gilroy, Head of Sustainability, Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division, says “2017 has been a year of collaboration and innovation at Bunzl Catering Supplies – and what we’ve achieved is truly remarkable. The launch of our ‘first of its kind’ sustainability e-brochure reflects the growing culture of sustainable change within our business. The e-brochure is packed full of information, invention and endeavour – and I can’t wait to share it with our customers and suppliers.”

Outlining how the business operates to reduce its environmental impact, the e-brochure provides information on: training and development, health and safety, environmental targets and reporting, reducing fleet emissions, industry group membership, responsible procurement and the modern-day slavery act.

Through a series of case studies, the e-brochure highlights individual and group endeavour – from charitable initiatives pioneered by Bunzl Catering Supplies’ employees, to innovative collection and recycling schemes designed in collaboration with its customers.

Key statistics are displayed prominently in the e-brochure to give speedy insights into recent sustainability achievements, these include how much cardboard we recycled in 2016 and co2e emissions saved through the introduction of LED lighting and voltage optimisation.

Clickable links to additional e-resources, like the Bunzl plc corporate social responsibility report and the Bunzl plc modern slavery statement are also featured in the e-brochure, as well as two engaging videos showcasing the Simply Cups launch day at Loughborough University and the Square Mile launch day in the City of London.

Prefaced with an introduction from Matt Johnson, Managing Director, Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division, the e-brochure provides a holistic overview of Sustainability in the business, and highlights people-led projects in the business that are actively reaching out to local communities.

Matt Johnson says “As a trustee of the Springboard Charity, a charity that helps disadvantaged people into sustainable employment in the hospitality industry, I’m delighted to see so many of our own people actively supporting local and international community and charity projects. Two such people are Jody Crawforth and Martin Allen, who are currently training to complete the Prudential Ride London- Surrey 100 to raise money for In Kind Direct, a charity that distributes consumer goods to vulnerable communities.”

The e-brochure also sets out the importance of working in collaboration, both within our business and in the wider market place. Matt Johnson says “What we’ve learnt is that successful, innovative solutions are born when we work in partnership with our people, our customers and our suppliers, and other forward-thinking organisations. Waste is a shared problem, so it stands to reason that effective solutions are created when we work together.”

Joanna Gilroy agrees that the theme of working together is prevalent throughout the e-brochure, she comments “Working in collaboration across the whole supply chain, we’ve pioneered significant change that has had a positive impact on end-of-life solutions.
