Nia Children’s Foundation sends vital food parcels to Kenyan children during Covid-19
Shezmin Madhani, National Account Manager at Bunzl Catering Supplies runs a charity called Nia Children’s Foundation. The Foundation works with local suppliers to provide food supplies and educational materials to schools in Africa’s poorest slums. This ensures that children attend school and receive regular meals enabling them to become healthier and more focused in class. Currently the Foundation feeds 765 children breakfast and lunch daily.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, schools in Kenya are currently closed, so the Foundation has sent 800 food packages directly to the children’s homes. These packages contain vital weekly food supplies, including 5kg of rice and 5kg of beans, giving the children and their families a fighting chance to stay well-nourished in these difficult times.

Bunzl Catering Supplies has been a regular supporter of Nia Children’s Foundation since 2016, directly contributing over £7,000 to the Foundation via its corporate social responsibility fund and fund-raising activities – that is 116 children fed and educated for one year via Bunzl Catering Supplies’ support.
Shezmin Madhani comments “ Bunzl Catering Supplies have been a huge support to Nia Children’s Foundation, consistently helping to raise vital funds for the Foundation when it needs it the most. Covid-19 has had a massive effect on the children’s learning but most importantly on their daily feeding. No school means no breakfast and no lunch. The lockdown has also resulted in a lack of work, resulting in families struggling with the basics. This pandemic has hit the poorest the hardest and we wanted to ensure that the kids and their families still had basic food to get through the weeks. Bunzl Catering Supplies’ continuing support has been invaluable.”
Now more than ever Nia needs our support. It costs £5 to feed and educate a child for one month and this buys around 20 meals. For the price of a coffee and a muffin in the UK you can feed a child for a whole month whilst delivering a chance of education at the same time. Support can be given in many ways, to find out more: visit http://niachildrensfoundation.org/support-us/
