Serve English Wine: raise a glass to English vineyards
By stocking English wine you can celebrate locally grown grapes and raise a glass to the award winning vineyards of England.
As of the end of 2015 there were 502 vineyards across the country, averaging around 4 Hectares each, they produced a total of 5.06 million bottles of English wine in 2015. There are 28 different wine grapes grown in England, with the top three grapes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Bacchus, accounting for over 50% of wine produced.
Due to the climate and soil of southern England being similar to the conditions in Champagne, English Sparking wines are by far the majority of wine produced in the country.
The style of wines produced in England are:
Sparkling: 66%
Still White: 24%
Red/rosé: 10%
Pubs, bars and restaurants can benefit from offering locally produced wine as part of a ‘buy local’ campaign. Operators can provide tastings from disposable glasses, a free glass of wine with a meal or why not serve English wine in the great outdoors of an English pub garden.
Here at Bunzl Catering Supplies, we have a variety of disposable products for serving English wine. Take a look in our Disposables e-brochure at our wine and Champagne glasses for an easily disposable, crack-resistant and stackable solution.
