Invest in recycling bins to meet ‘Simpler Recycling’ policy
The UK Government has introduced a new policy to simplify and streamline waste collection in England. ‘Simpler Recycling’ creates a universal standard for waste collection from all households, businesses and relevant non-domestic premises (like schools and hospitals) across England, ensuring that citizens can recycle the same materials in every region.
The first important deadline is the 31st March 2025, when businesses and relevant non-domestic premises in England must arrange the collection of glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, and food waste (micro-firms* are temporarily exempt).
Under the new policy, households and workplaces will be required to separate their waste into 4 separate containers: Residual (non-recyclable) waste, food waste (mixed with garden waste if appropriate), paper and card, and all other dry recyclable materials (plastic, metal, glass). It is hoped that consistency in waste separation across the country will reduce confusion around recycling.
Bunzl Catering Supplies continues to work closely with its hospitality customers to navigate an increasingly complex legislative landscape in food service packaging. The business is encouraging its customers to have a conversation with their recycling and collectors to make sure they can collect separated recycling, as well as invest in their recycling infrastructure, internal and external bins, refuse sacks, and appropriate signage.
To make this easier for its customers in the hospitality industry, Bunzl Catering Supplies is featuring a collection of colour-coded recycling bins and refuse sacks on a helpful factsheet that fully explains the ‘Simpler Recycling’ policy and how it will affect them.
The recycling bin systems on offer include ‘Slim Jim’ 87 litre containers that are linked together with a simple connecting bridge, creating an organized recycling station with intuitive billboard labels for easy sortation.
Additionally, a modular 80 litre ‘Procycle’ recycling bin with a range of back panel designs, which includes connectors to build your own multi-recycling stations, is also on offer. This features apertures at the front of the bin to attach waste bags, while the lid can be lifted for disposal of larger items and removed for an open bin option.
The ‘Recycling Buddy Bin Kit’ provides a quality, efficient and easily managed 60 litre recycling bin system where wheeled dollies are securely linked together for stability and easy movement. The kit includes three recycling bins with lids, three wheeled dollies and connecting links.
A food waste caddy with a lockable handle, which is made from 100% recycled plastic and is fully recyclable is also featured. Each of the recycling bins featured is flagged with a matching refuse sack from Bunzl Catering Supplies’ trusted exclusive brand CleanWorks range.
