On Wednesday 6 December, Bunzl Catering Supplies headline sponsored the inaugural waste2zero Awards, held at the Ham Yard Hotel in London.
The waste2zero Awards, created by online publication Footprint News, are the first of their kind in the foodservice industry, created to recognise the excellent work achieved by the industry to reduce waste, promote recycling and encourage environmentally responsible end-of-life solutions for disposable packaging products.
Matt Johnson, Managing Director, Bunzl Catering & Hospitality Division, comments:
“We’re delighted to have sponsored the waste2zero awards as headline sponsors, and we’re confident that the awards will affect real change for years to come, encouraging organisations that are uninformed or indifferent about waste to take the issue more seriously, and discover the business benefits of waste management and prevention.”
At Bunzl Catering Supplies we’ve taken a hands-on approach to tackling some of the big challenges around the issue of waste, and what we know is that successful solutions are born when we work in partnership. In the spirit of this collaboration, three of our strategic suppliers co-sponsored the awards: Huhtamaki, LINPAC and RPC BPI Recycled Products, illustrating the shared vision the whole supply chain has, to tackle the issue of waste.”
Tony Sullivan, Purchasing Director, Bunzl Catering Supplies, making his opening speech at the awards, comments:
“Right now, there’s a lot of attention on waste in the foodservice industry. The waste2zero Awards puts us at the forefront of dialogue on waste – and allows us to recognise some of the fantastic work being done across the supply chain to make a positive difference. Waste is a shared problem, so the solution will come from all of us, working together to make effective change. But tonight is about celebrating our achievements in the industry, and showing our support to everyone here – particularly our customers and our suppliers.”
Our congratulations go to the winners and runners-up at the waste2zero Awards, including Café Spice Namaste for winning the Resource Management Business of the Year Award (sponsored by Bunzl Catering Supplies) and to our customers; Gather & Gather for winning Best Waste Management Project Award (non-food), BaxterStorey for winning Management Project Award (food) and Compass Group for winning Best Waste Prevention Project (non-food). Special mention must also go to Huhtamaki’s Global Category Director for Speciality Coffee, and chair of the PCRRG, Neil Whittall, who received the Special Achievement Award.
