It’s a fact that commercial kitchens can get very dirty. Surfaces need to be regularly cleaned and sanitised, equipment needs to be washed so it’s free from contamination and floors need to be clean and dry to prevent slippages. With a multitude of activities taking place in a kitchen at once, it’s easy to see why cleaning can be missed if there’s no proper cleaning system in place.
Now that spring has sprung, ‘spring cleaning’ might be on your mind, and although a deep clean is essential in catering establishments, why not also use spring as a time to review and refresh your cleaning system?
Throughout the shift, after the shift, end of the day, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning tasks should be structured and highlighted to your staff, so they are aware of their responsibilities and when tasks need completing. Some cleaning jobs should be done several times a day, while others need to only be done weekly or monthly. Regular cleaning of your kitchen is essential for food safety and can help reduce food waste, lowering overall menu costs.
Focusing on your essential daily cleaning tasks, it is important to understand the meaning of a ‘two-stage clean’. Simply put, a two-stage clean is completed by first cleaning all dirt and grease off of the surface (stage 1) and then covering the area with a light sprinkling of food-safe sanitiser (stage 2) to kill bacteria and prevent it from spreading. A two-stage clean doesn’t need to be done all the way through the day, but is required during breaks between shifts and as part of the end of day big clean.
Just launched as part of our exclusive brand of cleaning chemicals, Cleanline, is a new colour-coded “Complete Kitchen Cleaning Kit”. The kit is ideal for professional everyday kitchen cleaning and provides a simple and cost-cost effective solution for essential two-stage cleaning.
The fantastic new Cleanline Kitchen Cleaning Kit comprises three cleaning solutions, with sufficient concentrate to make up 67 trigger spray bottles of each of the three products.
- Cleanline multipurpose cleaner is a concentrated, versatile multipurpose cleaner, suitable for effectively cleaning most washable hard services in the kitchen, and designed for stage one in a 2-stage clean.
- Cleanline food safe cleaner sanitiser, designed for stage two, is a concentrated, odourless sanitiser, ideal for most washable hard kitchen surfaces including worktops, chopping boards and utensils.
- Cleanline heavy duty degreaser is a concentrated, alkali-based degreaser, effective at cutting through grease and grime in the kitchen, especially on walls, floors, canopies and hobs.
Also included in the kit are:
- Three pelican pumps – one for each of the concentrated chemicals. Pumps are non-drip for safe dilution of concentrate into trigger spray bottles.
- Three corresponding colour-coded trigger spray bottles to match with each of the three concentrated products. 750ml trigger spray bottles are pre-printed and have colour-coded heads for easy identification.
- Laminated kitchen wall plan featuring dosing, application and hazard information.
Priced at just £19.99, the kit can be used to make up 200 diluted trigger spray bottles, which equates to 10p per bottle, making it cost-effective for high and medium-volume use.
Simple and cost-effective alternative
Cleanline Complete Kitchen Cleaning Kit was created to provide the hospitality sector with a simple and cost-effective alternative to the thousands of chemical cleaning products on the market today.
It was also designed to support a two-stage cleaning regime, a hygiene procedure recommended by the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for cleaning a professional food preparation environment, and the reason why the kit has two separate cleaner and sanitiser products, which work together.
For stage one, once all loose debris is removed from the area, the surface is sprayed with the Cleanline multipurpose cleaner from a trigger spray bottle, which is colour-coded with a green head, and then wiped down.
Then, for stage two, the Cleanline food safe cleaner sanitiser trigger spray, which is colour-coded with a blue head, is turned to the mist setting, sprayed and left to settle on the newly-cleaned surface. The sanitiser is a food-safe product that does not need to be rinsed, but can be simply left to air dry. It is also chemically compatible with the Cleanline multipurpose cleaner.
