Ensure your guest have adequate means of escape in an emergency with CODE RED™ evacuation chairs.

Bunzl Catering Supplies is reminding its customers in the catering and hospitality sector about the importance of providing all guests an adequate means of escape in case of a fire, including those with limited mobility.  In partnership with its supplier Reliance Medical Ltd, Bunzl Catering Supplies has released a 2-page PDF featuring a two CODE RED™ evacuation chairs.

The first CODE RED™ evacuation chair is a track-based system, allowing operation by just one person, reducing health and safety concerns during use, eliminating delay, and allowing smooth descent of stairs. Hotels, restaurants, educational buildings, offices or any multi-level building cannot afford to be without this essential evacuation device.

The second CODE RED™ evacuation chair is a two wheel transit chair, designed to aid the movement of a patient in a seated position. It is especially useful in situations where trolleys and stretchers cannot be utilised.  According to Gov.uk, employers need to make provisions for disabled people and those of limited mobility should there need to be an emergency evacuation. “The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that all people using a building should be provided with an adequate means of escape in case of fire. This includes a suitable escape plan.”

“The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) does not make any change to these requirements. Where an employer or a service provider does not make provision for the safe evacuation of disabled people from its premises, this may be viewed as discrimination. It may constitute a failure to comply with the requirements of the fire safety legislation mentioned above.”
